When Iran children become 2020 Venice fest stars

This year’s Venice Film Festival in Italy has awarded Iranian young actor Rouhollah Zamani for his role in Majid Majidi’s new offering.

The actor along with Shamila Shirzad is real-life working children who were selected to play in award-winning Majidi’s ‘Sun Children’.

In a video message, Zamani who contracted Covid-19 and could not attend the fest, thanked the jury panel and the director for highlighting poverty and child labor.

‘Sun Children’ narrates the contrast between the world of children and adults, which is depicted by the children and the paths they are about to take to become grown-ups.

Oscar-nominated Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi is an expert in making films themed on children, such as ‘Children of Heaven’, ‘The Color of God’ and ‘The Song of Sparrows’,  as well as the Iranian-Indian movie 'Beyond the Clouds’.

Majidi’s ‘Children of Heaven’ was nominated for an Oscar in 1998 and his latest is heralded by critics as a candidate with a good chance to win an Oscar for the Best International Feature Film at the next edition of the Academy Awards.
